A Watched Pot...

Americans have an expression that "A watched pot never boils", meaning the more you watch something the longer it takes. And, I have been watching the garden and like the expression says, the plants had not been growing fast enough. But then... one day there was this burst of flowers.

And Chrissy was right, it has been relaxing to lovingly work at weeding and watching the garden grow. One thing I have noticed is that there is a simple beauty that exists in plants in a garden. As usual click each photo for a better view.

These flowers are from my growing squash crop. One day they just burst forward out of no where.

This one too is sort of peeking through. I could not help but think it was almost like a little child hiding.

As I looked at this shot, the flower almost appears to be an orchid.

When I first took these photos I thought I might be a little over the top regarding the garden. But, I later went back to look at them and the buds had closed. It was then that I realized I had captured a moment in time that existed and then disappeared as the plant moved on to the it's next stage.

The Promise of Spring...

It is the day before the official first day of Spring and I am enjoying a warm, beautiful day. I love this time of year... everything seems to be waking up from the long sleep of Winter.

Even Daddy has shaken off his ground hog status and is planning his next conquest at the Senior Center. And so I thought it only fitting to give you an update on all the doings as the backyard once again comes back to life and I can enjoy, for a few months at least, why I moved to Florida. As always, click each photo for a better view.

Long before the official date the trees somehow knew that it was time and I could see buds. It feels nice most days now to sit on the pergola and watch the leaves develop almost like butterflies coming out of a cocoon.

My old nemesis, the dark spooky tree, that was tamed last year is still there but not much of a threat now.

in fact, so much light now comes through that I decided to make a small garden out of that corner of the backyard. Daddy says I am ambitious in that I have planted all kinds of vegetables to the point of making myself a full time farmer, but I think it will be fun to just go in the backyard and pick food from the ground. I will provide regular updates as it progresses.

The birds have also decided to return and it feels reassuring to hear either the tapping of a woodpecker or the cooing of a pair of wild doves that have taken up residence.

Daylight Saving Time now gives me time in the evenings to enjoy a glass of wine and ponder the plants that did not survive the hard winter,

the flowers that are blooming everywhere (even if they are weeds),

and yes, JLBO, even the makings of the afternoon barbecue!

That is truly the promise of Spring and what looks like a lot of work this Summer...

Worlds within Worlds

I often think we do not take the time to really look at things. While resting on our recent holiday, I saw a flower in the distance and decided to give it a complete look. We all recognize the beauty it possesses, but with this series of photos I would like to examine the parts that go into making up that beauty. As always, click each photo for a better view.

The original flower

A closer look

Closer still

and finally worlds within worlds!

Different Parts of a Day

I decided to just take a day and point out all the things I ran into on that day that caught my eye or caused me a degree of wonder. The pictures are not in time order but I did provide a description of how they arrived during the day.

I'm really drawn to this piece of public art. Here are two views, in the afternoon and later at dusk as the sun was going down. I changed directions and what a difference the light and view makes.

These very tiny flowers (weeds) are all over a vacant lot we happened to walk by. They looked so beautiful I decided to take a macro shot.

Time at the library around noon on a weekend. I just liked the view from the top of the stairs. Your eye follows the stairs and then begins to focus on the people.

Breakfast and fruit in a basket on the table. The colors and composition just struck me as oddly simple and yet beautiful.

After Breakfast, out in the backyard in a tree I spy a hawk. He looks very stately and then I learn he is what is called a Chicken Hawk that eats other birds.

Around eleven, still morning and as I walk past this restaurant near the library, this flower arrangement in the window of a nearby restaurant caught my eye.
